A cable news reporter is recovering after undergoing a kidney transplant which was donated to him by a colleague.
According to The Hill, CNN’s Richard Roth sent a letter to the network last year expressing his need for a kidney. Samira Jafari, deputy managing editor of CNN’s investigations unit, responded and volunteered.
“I was moved by it,” Jafari said during a joint appearance with Roth on CNN’s “New Day” on Monday.
Roth expressed his gratitude for Jafari’s good deed. “I’m just very blessed. I’m not very lucky at the racetrack, one of my loves, but so far with this medical lifeline that Samira has given me, it’s onward and upward,” Roth said during the interview.
Jafari had never met Roth before the surgery took place. “It just felt like as a human something I could do at that point in my life,” she said.
