There was no shortage of tributes to the late John Clayton at the NFL Draft. As part of this week’s edition of his “Football Morning in America” column, NBC’s Peter King highlighted a number of conversations he had about the beloved NFL reporter that passed away in March.
King mentioned that he had a conversation with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio. Sal Pal told King that Clayton’s death was hitting him particularly hard at the moment.
“He was talking about how often he’d talk to John, particularly in the leadup to the draft, and this year, after Clayton’s untimely death this spring, he missed those chats,” King wrote.
Los Angeles Chargers GM Tom Telesco was also thinking about John Clayton. He did not speak to King directly. His comments to local reporters in Los Angeles were reprinted in the “Football Morning in America” column.
“I know how much John loved the draft, and he was a big part of our NFL community too,” Telesco said.
John Clayton was 67 years old. He is survived by his wife Pat. A memorial fund was set up in his name by Seattle Sports 710 and Bonneville International, where he hosted his radio show.
