There are a lot of reports swirling about who will be a part of Amazon’s NFL coverage this fall. Roger Goodell announced during the NFL Draft that one of the spots will go to Tony Gonzalez. This month has brought rumors about Kay Adams, Kaylee Hartung, and Pat McAfee. Now add Richard Sherman to that list.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Amazon and Sherman are “deep in talks” and that the streamer hopes to have him for “a key role” this fall. Similar to Robert Griffin III’s deal with ESPN, Rapoport says that Sherman is staying in football shape and can pursue future NFL opportunities.
Richard Sherman seems like a natural fit for television. That could be why Rapoport’s report is so vague. There are so many ways Amazon could make use of him, it may not even have a firm plan yet.
Amazon clearly wants its NFL coverage to have a different look and sound. In addition to Sherman and McAfee, the company has also been linked to Marshawn Lynch for a potential broadcasting role. Not only do all three have very unique personalities, they also have not been used on any other network’s studio programming in the past.
