San Antonio’s Sports Star has a new home on the FM dial. The radio station can now be heard by more people than ever thanks to Alpha Media flipping 94.1 from a CHR format to the sports station’s new FM home.
“Moving to 94.1 is huge,” Jason Minnix, the station’s afternoon drive host wrote in a blog announcing the change. “The signal is 37 times bigger than what we had yesterday. You know I am a music guy so this is like a band that started playing clubs, moved to arenas and is now playing massive stadiums. Like going from Wolff Stadium to Jerry’s World.”
There is no change to the station’s programming at this time.
The new FM signal has over 10,000 watts of power.
Energy 94.1, the station that previously occupied the frequency, struggled to gain traction against iHeartMedia’s Now 96.1. Energy’s ratings were less than half of what Now did according to Radio Insight.
Minnix added that the move is significant for San Antonio. The market went from not having an FM sports station at all to having one of the most powerful in all of Texas.
“This move to 94.1 gives San Antonio one of the biggest sports stations signal wise in the state. Dallas has a sports station with a bigger signal. Houston doesn’t. Austin doesn’t.”
