Seven crew members for the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” were arrested for illegally entering the U.S. House of Representatives office building on Thursday night.
According to the Guardian, US Capitol Police (USCP) officers discovered the people inside the Longworth House Office Building.
“Their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through congressional aides of the members interviewed,” CBS said.
“After leaving the members’ offices on their last interview of the day, the production team stayed to film standups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained by Capitol police,” the network added.
The incident comes as the Jan. 6 committee works to investigate the riots that occurred last year following former President Donald Trump’s speech to hundreds of thousands of supporters. In the events following that speech, groups clashed with the police.
During the hours-long melee, hundreds of police officers and some protestors were injured. Capitol police said they received a call about a disturbance in the Longworth House Office Building around 8:30 pm.
According to Fox News, which first reported the incident, the Late Show staffers reportedly applied to get press credentials for the hearing but were denied.
