Roger Goodell Says He Isn’t Aware Of An NFL Ban On Dave Portnoy

Barstool President Dave Portnoy isn’t banned from NFL games. At least, commissioner Roger Goodell said under oath in front of congress that he is not aware of any formal ban on El Pres.

Goodell testified willingly to the House Oversight Committee investigating the Washington Commanders on Wednesday. Jim Jordan asked the commissioner, who joined the hearing via Zoom about the issue.

“Why do you ban Dave Portnoy from NFL games?” the Ohio Republican asked. “He’s a journalist. In fact, he’s a sports journalist.”

There is a well-documented history of Portnoy’s run-ins with the NFL. It is hard to believe that Roger Goodell is not familiar with them.

Dave Portnoy isn’t buying it. He responded to Goodell’s comments on Twitter.

Portnoy was among those arrested outside of NFL headquarters in 2015 after he staged a protest against Tom Brady’s suspension for Deflategate. He and PFT Commenter were arrested again after sneaking into Super Bowl Media Day in 2018. He was literally dragged out of the game later that same week.

The most recent high-profile shot at the NFL came in 2020. Dave Portnoy won an auction that was supposed to get him the chance to watch a game alongside the commissioner. That never happened.

Roger Goodell was fielding questions from members of the House Oversight Committee after a letter he wrote was read aloud. He detailed the league’s investigation of allegations of misconduct within the Commanders organization in the six-page document.
