Casey Close, the former agent for Freddie Freeman, promised legal action against Fox Sports’ Doug Gottlieb and now he has delivered.
Jeff Passan reports that the agent has sued Gottlieb for libel, alleging that the radio host has defamed him and his company Excel Sports Management.
Gottlieb’s tweet came at the end of June, when the Atlanta Braves hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers. One of the major storylines was the return of former Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman to Atlanta. Freeman had signed in the offseason with the Dodgers as a free agent.
Freeman was emotional before the game as he received his World Series ring and stories started to bubble to the surface about the player regretting signing in Los Angeles. Gottlieb apparently got some information regarding the Freeman/Atlanta negotiations that he wanted to share with his followers.
In his tweet, Gottlieb accused Close of withholding an offer from the Braves, resulting in Close being fired by Freeman.
Close responded and then subsequently threatened legal action.
