We still have to wait four more months to get to watch the world’s best soccer players compete at the World Cup but at least we know when it does arrive, it will feature one of the sport’s preeminent voices. Ian Darke, who is currently a mainstay on ESPN’s soccer coverage, will be on loan to FOX Sports for the tournament.
Drake tweeted his delight at the news and thanks to ESPN for allowing him to do the telecasts.
FOX has already announced that John Strong would return as their lead play-by-play voice for the World Cup. The network also announced last month the addition of Jacqui Oatley to the booth as another play-by-play voice.
“Our worldwide search for potential FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 announcers yielded so many talented candidates, but when we saw we had the opportunity to have Ian bring his legendary voice and perspective to FOX Sports, it was a quick call and one we were thrilled to make,” said David Neal, Executive Producer of FIFA World Cup on FOX and Vice President of Production for FOX Sports. “We’re happy to have Ian joining us in Qatar and look forward to hearing his commentary when the competition kicks off on Monday, November 21.”
