Sports Media Pays Tribute To Bill Russell

Bill Russell was remembered not just as a winner following his death on Sunday, but also for what he meant to the fight for civil rights during his playing days. Many of the public tributes to him described Hall of Famer as one of the most important athletes in American sports.

Russell’s on court accomplishments included eleven NBA titles, five MVP awards, and two national championships at the University of San Francisco. Outside of his playing career, he is remembered for standing up to racism and speaking out about the treatment he endured from fans of his own Boston Celtics.

Tributes to Bill Russell poured in immediately after the announcement came that he had passed away. Benztown Branding produced an audio tribute which was sent out to radio stations across the country. Boston media outlets and personalities also offered condolences and memories of the NBA legend.
