When the Big Ten conference announced their media deals with CBS, Fox and NBC, they left room inside the framework of the seven-year deal if one team joined the conference: Notre Dame.
According to The Sports Business Journal, the conference and institutions of the Big Ten know that there will be an amount of money added to the annual billion-dollar deal, in the event that Notre Dame becomes a member of the conference.
The exact amount of that upcharge to the networks is unknown except to those inside the Big Ten walls. It is also of note that Notre Dame is the only school mentioned by name in the deals to command such an extra consideration. If other institutions do agree to join the conference, networks have agreed to have good-faith conversations with the Big Ten about opening their deals and adjusting the rights fees.
