Justin Baragona: One America News Isn’t ‘Dead Yet’

One America News Network has had a challenging 2022 as the cable news channel was dropped this year by DirecTV and Verizon Fios

With two significant carriers now out on OAN, the only way to watch the network in the U.S. would be through the Alaska-based General Communications Inc. or little-known digital carriers KlowdTV and Vidgo.

The Daily Beast news media reporter Justin Baragona spoke with Vox Media’s “Today, Explained” on Wednesday, where he shared his thoughts on what will happen to the network.

“I’d call it dying,” Baragona said. “You can’t say it’s dead yet. If [OAN] could make it work on streaming, maybe. But the business model was not set up that way. The business model was centered around being a cable network.

“There is a lot of right-wing streaming options out there that are going to constantly just be beating them, whether it’s from the Daily Wire, whether it’s from The Blaze. I just don’t know if they’re going to be able to survive in this environment. It just feels like they’re almost already a relic.”

In 2020, YouTube demonetized OAN after spreading COVID-19 misinformation, suspending the network from the YouTube Partner Program, meaning if it wants to monetize its videos again, it will have to re-apply.
