WABC has continued to celebrate 100 years on the air with several on-air promotions, but New York state and city officials have proclaimed Thursday, September 8th as WABC Day.
In addition to Thursday being WABC Day, the station’s Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow will play the original vinyl recording of the Meet The Beatles album at 2:00 PM on Wednesday to recreate the band’s second appearance in America. The disc jockey introduced The Beatles for their first stop on their 1965 summer tour at Shea Stadium.
The 86-year-old told Newsday “I don’t like the word ‘recreate,’ but I will get into the emotion of what happened and what it was like being involved with that particular part of our culture.”
Red Apple Media owner John Catsimatidis, operator of WABC, has also announced the WABC studio will be dedicated to honor Morrow, the longest serving on-air personality in New York and the United States. He began his career in 1959.
Catsimatidis also announced Cousin Brucie will be inducted into the WABC Hall of Fame.
