iHeartMedia’s News Radio 570 WSYR in Syracuse is celebrating its 100th anniversary, including a proclamation from the Mayor of Syracuse, Ben Walsh, on Thursday, Sept. 15.
In addition to the proclamation from the mayor, WSYR will display an online museum featuring previously archived photographs and biographies of previous on-air personalities and more.
“From its earliest days, News Radio 570 WSYR has been an integral part of this community,” iHeartMedia Upstate New York President Robert J. Morgan said (h/t Radio Online).
“Generations of Central New Yorkers have depended on News Radio 570 WSYR for relevant, accurate, and up-to-the-minute coverage of the topics that matter most to the local community. We intend to build on this legacy in the next 100 years and will always be here with news, conversation, and companionship in times of crisis and celebration.”
While WSYR was first licensed in 1926, the origin of its founding was September 15, 1922, when WMAC launched. WMAC would later merge with WSYR.
Throughout the radio station’s history as a cornerstone of the Syracuse media landscape, 570 WSYR has been the home to various news talk voices such as Bob Lonsberry, Dave Allen, Joe Galuski, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Clay Travis & Buck Sexton, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, George Noory and more.
