Fans of Mike & the Mad Dog got a treat last week when Chris “Mad Dog” Russo showed up on The Mike Francesa Podcast. It got many wondering if the duo could work together again with some regularity. That possibility was put to bed immediately on Thursday’s episode of the show.
“I got asked a lot about this everywhere in the last couple of days,” Francesa said. “It’s not something we can do on a regular basis for a lot of business reasons that I’m not going into.”
True to his word, Francesa did not offer much detail. He said that he and Russo still like talking sports together, but it won’t happen regularly. The only explanation that he offered was that he and Russo do not “have the freedom” to decide to reunite on their own.
“The Mike & the Mad Dog brand and the idea of anything on a regular basis, there are so many people that will have their hands in it that it is just not gonna happen.”
Francesa says he is happy that the old show is remembered so fondly. It is part of what motivates he and Russo to make time for one another’s shows.
He did not have an answer for fans wondering when the do may speak again in a public forum, but he reiterated that there is no schedule and that it won’t be happening anytime soon.
“I would think if it was once more this year, it would be a lot.”
