Gavin Newsom: Fox News ‘Ruthless’, ‘Dominates With Illusion’

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) made interesting comments about cable news outlets, specifically Fox News, during a weekend appearance at the Texas Tribune Festival.

Newsom said Fox News drives the political discourse in the nation, and pointed to people in his personal life whose beliefs are shaped by the network.

“These guys are ruthless on the other side,” Newsom said. “That prime time line up by Fox, they are ruthless. They dominate the most important thing in American politics today, and that’s the narrative. Facts become secondary to narrative. They dominate with illusion. We are getting crushed.”

Fox News has dominated the cable news ratings, especially in the primetime hours that Newsom alluded.

The clip of Newsom’s comments aired during CNN’s New Day Monday morning. Anchor John Avlon felt Newsom was correct in his opinion.

“He has a good point about the unified narrative of Republicans that tends to put Democrats on defense because they are saying ‘Gosh, look at all those lies. It goes back to that saying of Will Rogers almost a century ago, ‘I’m not a member of an organized political party. I’m a Democrat,’” Avlon joked.
