The debut of a nightly show from Chris Cuomo on NewsNation gave the network a bump in total viewers, but it still lags behind other cable news channels.
Cuomo debuted to 147,000 viewers Monday, according to figures released by Nieslen Media Research. According to Barrett News Media’s Douglas Pucci, that’s a significant increase in average primetime viewers for the network. NewsNation averaged just 46,000 viewers in primetime the week of September 19-24.
However, Cuomo remained stagnant with viewers in the 25-54-year-old demographic, with only 8,000 viewers, which is what NewsNation was averaging in primetime before the new show debuted.
In comparison, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight averaged 2.9 million viewers, with 445,000 coming in the 25-54 demographic. All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC was second with 1.4 million viewers. Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN saw an audience of 814,000.
Cuomo’s return to nightly cable news comes after nearly a year away from the spotlight after being fired by CNN for advising his brother on combatting sexual harassment allegations.
