Troy Aikman: Singing ‘Turn Out the Lights’ Felt Like the Right Thing to Do

Late in Monday Night Football’s broadcast of the Los Angeles Rams-San Francsico 49ers game, Troy Aikman went to creative well to encapsulate thee finality of the result.

With 1:44 left in the game and the game result known (San Francisco led 24-9 and had the ball), Aikman did his best “Dandy” Don Meredith tribute by singing “Turn Out the Lights”. It was a feature that Meredith drew some acclaim for during his time as an analyst for Monday Night Football.

Aikman told The Musers on The Ticket in Dallas that the idea just came naturally and he felt like it was the “right thing to do”.

“I never did it, of course when I was with FOX, but then was Monday Night Football it just kind of felt like the right thing to do since now I’m on Monday Night, that’s where Meredith was.”

He also said he doesn’t know if this will be a weekly thing yet.
