The Recount Reportedly Exploring Possible Sale

Digital media outlet The Recount could be on its way to having new ownership.

In Tuesday’s edition of the “Reliable Sources” newsletter, CNN’s Oliver Darcy reported that the journalism and short-form video company might be exploring a sale.

The company was founded by John Heilemann and John Battelle three and a half years ago and currently fills social media platforms like Twitter with short politics-focused videos.

A person close to the matter told Darcy that they believe a sale to an established commodity might help supply The Recount with greater resources and a larger audience.

In addition, the company is in talks with potential partners or acquirers, as the person told Darcy that discussions are “active and ongoing.”

“From the start, we’ve believed we’re doing important, path-breaking work at The Recount,” a spokesperson for The Recount told Darcy. “And we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to continue that mission and take it to the next level.”

The report didn’t include the names of possible people or companies that would be interested in acquiring The Recount or how much a potential sale would go for should talks reach that point.
