Former CNN host Soledad O’Brien is calling out The New York Times, saying that the newspaper contributes to disinformation in the news media.
On Thursday, The Times issued an editorial that disinformation has only evolved more pervasive despite years of steps to rein in the torrent of lies.
Additionally, the editorial ahead of the U.S. midterm elections and alternative social media sites have assisted in cementing false information as a defining feature of American politics.
Nonetheless, O’Brien noted that The Times has provided a platform to ‘known liars.’
“Also, mainstream news organizations like the @nytimes frequently platform known liars, have long struggled to call lies and engage in both-sides-ing issues, which is increases disinformation in the general public,” O’Brien said on Twitter. “And you guys should stop doing those things.”
This week, The Times’ Chief White House Correspondent Peter Baker stated that the newspaper doesn’t do any favorable coverage between the Biden and Trump administrations.
“I think we cover every president exactly the same,” Baker said. “What we see is what’s in front of us. Joe Biden is different than Donald Trump. Donald Trump is different than Barack Obama. Barack Obama is different than George W. Bush.”
