Carton and Roberts: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman Make Manningcast Obsolete

During Carton and Roberts Tuesday, co-host Evan Roberts revealed to Craig Carton that WFAN morning man Boomer Esiason would be appearing on the Manningcast next Monday night.

“Did you hear the big Boomer news?,” Roberts asked.

“I did not hear the big Boomer news. Is he retiring?,” Carton asked.

“Boomer Esiason next Monday night on the Manningcast,” Roberts revealed. “I heard him say it this morning. I was listening –“

“Why?”, Carton interrupted.

“Because the Bengals are playing, so there’s a Boomer connection,” Roberts responded.

“We went from President Obama to Boomer in a week,” Carton joked. “Yikes. Wow. My god. Think about that drop off.”

The pair then discussed their lack of interest in the Manningcast, now that ESPN features “the best broadcast crew” during Monday Night Football.

“No offense to Boomer or President Obama, but I’m kind of over the Manningcast. I’m done,” Roberts said.

“It jump the shark a bit for you?,” Carton asked.

“Yeah. I loved it last year, but last night, I’m mostly watching the Nets game, to be honest with you. And the Knicks,” Roberts said. “But when I flip over to the football game, I go right to Joe Buck. And I think a part of it — I didn’t realize it — is I love Buck and Aikman.”

“Well, Buck and Aikman are great at what they do,” Carton admitted. “And by the way — let me rephrase that — I don’t think Aikman is all that great. He’s certainly competent and good. Joe Buck’s fantastic. I love listening to Joe do a game. Aikman I could take or leave.”

“I didn’t realize last year that I think my draw to the Manningcast was that the regular broadcast was so ‘blah’. I didn’t realize that,” Roberts said.

“Absolutely right. And no disrespect to Steve Levy and that crew,” said Carton. “It was (Brian) Griese, Levy, and (Louis) Riddick, I believe, who are all competent broadcasters. I mean, Riddick is being thought of as a General Manager candidate right now by a number of teams. Steve Levy is a puker, but he’s a competent broadcaster. He’s a great guy, and a very good broadcaster, and I used to play softball with him, but he’s a puker. That being said, if I have Peyton Manning over here and Eli Manning over here, and those guys, I’m more apt to check out the other broadcast. When you have the best broadcast crew — for a lot of people’s money — it’s just easy to stay right there.”
