NBC News has a senior politics editor as the network announced that HuffPost editorial director and Washington bureau chief Amanda Terkel is taking over the role.
Terkel will begin her new position at NBC News on Nov. 14, after the midterms, and will be based in Washington. Terkel will lead the network’s coverage of campaigns and the breaking politics news team as part of this new role she’s taking on.
“Throughout her tenure, Amanda crafted and directed the site’s defining and distinct political coverage — her team broke major news on the biggest stories of the day, and delivered them with authority and verve,” NBC News digital vp and executive editor Tom Namako wrote in an email to staff.
“This includes on-the-ground reporting of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, seven presidential and midterm campaign cycles and work that examined how decisions in Washington affect people’s everyday lives.”
NBC News will be obtaining a 12-year HuffPost veteran as Terkel held various roles with the news media outlet as she edited and wrote stories concerning people throughout the political spectrum.
“After 12 wonderful years at HuffPost, I’ll be joining @NBCNews Digital on 11/14 as senior politics editor, overseeing campaign coverage and politics breaking news,” Terkel said on Twitter, announcing her new position.
“So excited to join the team there, and thanks so much to @CatherineKimNY @TomNamako @etjohnstone.”
