The recently concluded Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies World Series saw a slight drop in viewership compared to its 2021 counterpart. Unfortunately for MLB and FOX Sports, the dip landed it as the second lowest rated fall classic ever.
12.5 million fans watched the deciding Game 6 broadcast on Saturday on FOX. That number is impressive given the college football games it faced in primetime, including Clemson-Notre Dame and Alabama-LSU.
The average audience for this year’s World Series was 11.8 million, down 1% from 11.9 million a season ago. The 2020 World Series was the lowest rated in history, garnering just 9.8 million viewers for the series played during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The World Series averaged at 25.0 rating in Philadelphia, while Houston grabbed a 24.0 share. Austin, San Antonio, and San Diego rounded out the top five highest rated markets.
