Fox News Trio Attacked in Ukraine Receive Journalism Award

Fox News state department correspondent Benjamin Hall and his two colleagues who died in Ukraine Fox News photojournalist Pierre Zakrzewski and Fox News freelance producer Sasha Kuvshynova were honored at the European Awards for Investigative and Judicial Journalism.

The trio were honored with La Presidenza Journalism Prize Friday evening in Naples, Italy (h/t TV Newser). Hall, Zakrzewski and Kuvshynova were attacked in Ukraine in March while on assignment for Fox News.

Hall would be the lone survivor but suffered horrific injuries in the attack. Fox News Italy-based journalist Amy Kellogg received the award on their behalf, while Hall did send a video message.

“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for this award today,” Hall said in the video message. “I greatly appreciate it. I want to start off first by paying tribute to Pierre, to Sasha [Oleksandra Kuvshinova], to all other journalists who have lost their lives covering war.

“But I do believe that it is essential that we keep on doing this job, that it is so important for telling the truth. I think that without journalists on the ground, you wouldn’t know for real the horrors, the murders, the atrocities that are taking place. Nobody knows the strength, the courage, the resilience of all those people who are fighting for good.”
