Liz Wheeler: Elon Musk Should Produce Smartphone For Twitter

Elon Musk and Twitter could be headed for a collision with Apple and Google. The Tesla CEO wants to vastly increase the revenue the company makes through subscriptions while opening up the site to more “free speech.”

However, Musk’s plans for Twitter could conflict with these two tech companies. “Twitter 2.0” could violate the terms for both, leading to the Twitter app not being available on their platforms. As a result, podcast host Liz Wheeler shared some advice on what the entrepreneur should do.

“If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, Elon Musk should produce his own smartphone,” Wheeler said on Twitter Friday.

“Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars; a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?”

Musk groaned in a tweet recently about app store fees that Google and Apple charge companies like Twitter.

“App store fees are obviously too high due to the iOS/Android duopoly,” Musk tweeted (h/t CNBC). “It is a hidden 30% tax on the Internet.”
