CNN SVP of Programming John Antonio Resigns to Save Jobs

Last week, CNN went through with its latest round of job cuts, as many at the network lost their job.

There was plenty of reaction to the latest layoffs and rather than give words, John Antonio, SVP of programming at CNN, decided to use actions. Oliver Darcy reported on Friday that Antonio had made an effort to save jobs in his department.

Antonion, who is in charge of all the dayside and weekend programming, has given notice of resignation as he tried to preserve jobs in his division and best align it for the future.

“It will be a difficult time for everyone,” Licht said in the memo. “If your job has been impacted, you will learn more through an in-person meeting or via Zoom, depending on your location.

“In those meetings, you will receive information specific to you about notice period or any severance that would apply and your anticipated last day.”

CNN isn’t the only media outlet facing layoffs, as companies such as NPR and SiriusXM are in the same boat. In addition, other digital news platforms, such as The Recount, are reportedly ceasing operations.
