After suffering a heart attack in August that nearly ended his life, longtime Chicago Bears and NFL analyst Hub Arkush will return to his TV show Pro Football Weekly Thursday to give a thank you to everyone who has wished him well in his recovery.
“Physically, I’m pretty close to fine,” said Arkush told Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times. “They’re still working on the mental. My memory is kind of a mess. The bottom line is that it was pretty ugly for a while but it’s going good now, hopefully toward a full recovery. We’ll see what happens.”
The 69-year-old Arkush collapsed outside of Hallas Hall on August 15th due to the heart attack. Chicago Bears Vice President of Security John Tarpey gave Arkush CPR after he did not have a pulse, and later used a defibrillator to revive him.
Arkush’s son, Arthur, has filled in for his father on the television show, which he commented was a nice distraction.
The longtime publisher of Pro Football Weekly was in the headlines at the conclusion of the 2021 season for his admission that he would not vote Aaron Rodgers as the league’s MVP after the Packers quarterback lied about his vaccination status. In turn, the Associated Press removed Arkush as a voter for the award, not for his insinuation that Rodgers is a “bad guy” as his reasoning for not casting the vote for him, but rather for revealing his vote before the results became public.
Arkush has completed physical therapy and looks forward to eventually returning to his work full-time. He added a cardiologist told him it would take roughly a calendar year before he returns to 100%.
