KNX News listeners might have noticed something different; no, it wasn’t a new voice on the station. Instead, the sound of an old melody has returned for 2023.
The Los Angeles-based radio station had a distinctive sonic symbol for much of its history: six notes that leave no doubt that you’re listening to KNX News. That tune is back, re-imagined for what KNX is in 2023: 97.1 FM, streaming on the Audacy app, podcasting, smart speakers, and more.
“Along with the media landscape, KNX News has evolved so much over the past few years,” Alex Silverman, KNX’s Director of News & Programming, said.
“These new sounds pay homage to our legacy of trust and credibility, while reflecting KNX’s position as the pulse of Southern California on all platforms in 2023.”
The new melody identity, which contains more than a dozen different themes centered around the iconic KNX six notes, features the stylings of various Los Angeles-based musicians.
“It’s exciting because I listen to the station, I’m based here in LA,” said Dave Bethell, co-owner of production firm TMStudios. “It was a delight to bring that iconic logo back.
“It’s fresh, new, but very LA. Not just those typical things you’d expect to hear in news, the big horns, the cliches; let’s throw that out, let’s try something new, let’s really talk the language of the listeners.”
