Marcellus Wiley: Shannon Sharpe Was Trying to Go Viral At Any Cost

Shannon Sharpe caused an on-court fracas over the weekend after getting into a shouting match with Memphis Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks. The video of the altercation went viral, and that’s exactly what Sharpe wanted, according to Marcellus Wiley.

During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show Tuesday, Wiley — a former colleague of Sharpe’s at FOX Sports — claimed the Pro Football Hall of Famer was in the wrong for his actions and believed there was an ulterior motive at play.

“It was dead wrong,” Wiley said. “It just seemed like a traveling circus. We have this element in media now where we’re trying to go viral at any cost, and it just felt like it was one of those moments that was lacking authenticity and it just seemed like it was thirsting for attention.”

The More to It podcast host then joked about what a fight between Sharpe and Brooks would have looked like, before ultimately noting that an altercation with Grizzlies center Steven Adams would not have gone well for Sharpe.

Wiley also pondered the emotional maturity of not only Sharpe but all the players involved in the incident as well.

“We are grown men with lots of commas on our checks. Why are you acting like this and broadcasting this to the world?”
