Following his dismissal from CNN due to his alleged use of media connections to investigate individuals who accused his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Chris Cuomo expressed profound distress and even contemplated harming himself and others. The former host of “Cuomo Prime Time” was fired in 2021 after an investigation by the New York Attorney General Letitia James.
During an interview on Anthony Scaramucci’s podcast, “Open Book,” Cuomo shared that he sought therapy after his termination, acknowledging that the experience caused both relatable and unrelatable damage.
Despite being hired by NewsNation to host a new primetime talk show, his comeback has not garnered anywhere near the same level of viewership as his previous program. Chris Cuomo lamented the fact that his ratings have been low, admitting that it is embarrassing to go from being the top-rated anchor at CNN to a channel that struggles to attract an audience.
Last year, Cuomo spoke publicly about his difficulties with mental health and alcohol abuse, confessing that he sometimes consumes alcohol excessively and not always for health reasons.
“I think it’s to settle my mind. I think it’s to deal with emotions that — I’m not saying I’m an alcoholic. I don’t believe in abusing those terms, but it’s something I’ve had to think about,” he said.
He also shared his belief that CNN wronged him and filed a $125 million arbitration claim against the network. Additionally, Chris Cuomo took legal action against HarperCollins, the publisher of his book “Deep Denial,” after they dropped the project following his termination.
