In recent years, a trend called “cancel culture” has resulted in the boycott and “cancellation” of numerous celebrities, TV shows, and companies due to certain ideas or perspectives deemed inappropriate by some groups.

This phenomenon is often considered a form of modern banishment. The comedy industry is particularly affected by cancel culture, as the genre inherently pushes boundaries and challenges the status quo through humor. However, with its offensive nature, popular comedians are being canceled at an unprecedented rate.

“If you want to know how free your society is, just ask a really basic question. Am I allowed to make fun of the people in charge? Can I mock them? Can I tweet that not with violence, but with words?” Carlson said Tuesday via Fox News Digital.

This issue is explored in a special episode of Fox Nation’s “Tucker Carlson Originals” called “The Death of Comedy,” where Tucker Carlson investigates the implications of losing comedy on the freedom of speech and the marketplace of ideas. Even though withdrawing support is a form of capitalism in action, cancel culture’s impact on careers and industries raises questions about preserving freedom of speech.

Comedians such as Ari Shaffir, Adam Carolla, and Luis J. Gomez explain that comedy is designed to challenge culture in a way that makes people think and laugh and is supposed to show where the establishment narrative is wrong.

However, some personalities have embraced cancel culture and political correctness demands, which is fueling a greater attack on comedy, according to many guests in the special.
