Former ESPN Sunday Night Baseball voice Matt Vasgersian is stepping into another national MLB package, albeit in just a fill-in role.
Vasgersian will be on the call for the MLB Sunday Leadoff debut later this month between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. That broadcast will air not only on Peacock – as all MLB Sunday Leadoff broadcasts do – but also on NBC. It will be the second consecutive year the network will simulcast the season debut of the streaming-only package.
Matt Vasgersian will also call Peacock’s broadcast of the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, May 7th as part of the MLB Sunday Leadoff package.
Vasgersian departed ESPN after the 2021 season to spend more time focusing on his work with MLB Network as well as the television voice of the Los Angeles Angels. “I can’t do everything I enjoy with MLB Network and the Angels, while still being away for nearly 30 weekends a year,” Vasgersian said at the time of his departure.
Chicago Blackhawks television play-by-play announcer Chris Vosters will work Peacock’s broadcasts on Sunday, April 30th, and Sunday, May 14th.
Both announcers are stepping in for the newly named voice of the package, Brendan Burke, who will not be available to work the Sunday morning timeslot until his duties with the New York Islanders and the NHL on TNT concludes.
Burke was officially introduced earlier this week.
“We’re excited to have Brendan rejoin NBC Sports this summer and look forward to pairing him with local analysts each week in the booth as we continue to provide coverage with local flavor and in-depth knowledge of the competing teams,” said NBC Sports Executive Producer Sam Flood.
Burke fills the role vacated by Jason Benetti, who joined FOX Sports last year.
