Forget about anything being imminent. The Pac-12 now is just hoping to get a new media rights deal done by football season.

Presidents of several of the conference’s remaining ten schools had suggested a new deal was going to be announced soon. The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel reports it is looking more like early summer will be a safer bet.

This is more bad news for the Pac-12 if Mandel is right. The conference is already racing against the clock. With all four other power conferences having long-term deals secured, the major networks are running out of desirable time slots where the conference’s football games could go.

Streamers have been keen on landing the conference’s games. A report from CBS’s Dennis Dodd suggested that more than half of the league’s football schedule could be available exclusively through a streaming service in the next deal.

The Pac-12 has been aggressive in trying to find a partner but hasn’t secured a deal at its current asking price. Negotiations began last summer after USC and UCLA announced they were leaving the conference for the Big Ten.
