Ian Eagle: Noah Eagle Wouldn’t Use Our Last Name Until He Established His Own Identity

There was a time when L.A. Clippers radio voice Noah Eagle wouldn’t introduce himself to others using his last name, sometimes even trying to avoid using his last name altogether.

Noah, the son of CBS play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle, was just finding his way as a journalism student at Syracuse University at the time. Ian told Carl Dukes and Mike Bell on 92.9 The Game in Atlanta that it wasn’t because he was ashamed of who he was.

“He truly wanted to just create his own identity there, and finally once he was established, things changed – dynamic changed – and he started saying his full name,” Eagle said Wednesday. “It’s been amazing. It’s been so cool and it’s been obviously great for our family.”

Bell asked Ian if he ever put any pressure on Noah to go into broadcasting as a kid, but Ian said Noah took it up on his own and that he didn’t have to work in the same field if he didn’t want to.

“Whatever he wanted to do I was gonna be behind him. My wife was gonna be behind him,” Eagle said. “He was probably about 14 when he started showing a real interest in this and I would find him reading the media guides and looking at my charts.”

“I realized at some point that he had become a student of it and was serious about it,” he added.
