Colin Dunlap: ‘What Does RG3 Get Out of Being a Mouthpiece For Lamar Jackson?’

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson continues to be the center of attention in NFL media circles after not securing a long-term contract with the franchise. One of his most ardent supporters has been Robert Griffin III. 93.7 The Fan’s Chris Mack believes RG3 hasn’t remained impartial in his analysis of Jackson.

During a discussion about Jackson Monday morning during The Fan Morning Show, co-host Colin Dunlap questioned why Griffin has been so boisterous in his defense of Jackson.

“What’s RG3 get out of being the mouthpiece for Lamar Jackson? Why do people like that decide they need to so vociferously stand up for this man, when I don’t think anyone was hating on him,” argued Dunlap.

Co-host Dorin Dickerson then argued that Griffin III doesn’t want the same thing that happened to him to happen to Jackson. He said the former Rookie of the Year is simply looking out for Jackson, saying he’s “being like an older brother” to Jackson.

“I’m gonna make sure that now that I have a platform every single day on ESPN, and I call games, and I watch quarterbacks and I study them, I’m gonna make sure what happened to me doesn’t happen to you,” Dickerson said of Griffin’s mindset.

“I get that, and that’s noble of Robert Griffin to do that. It’s great, but at a certain point, when you leave the game to then be an analyst of the game, you do need to look at it through a neutral lens,” Mack countered.

“That’s not true. RG3’s job is to give opinions,” rebutted Dunlap. “He doesn’t need to look at it neutrally.”

“He’s gotta provide an analysis though. That’s what he’s asked to do. He’s asked to analyze what he sees before him. Give me your real true thoughts on that. People that are taking up for Lamar Jackson just because they feel like Lamar Jackson has to be defended. I’m willing to bet there are people that are defending him who many not necessarily think he’s the best quarterback in the world. Who don’t think he’s worth $240 million. If you’re Robert Griffin, and that’s your opinion, fine.

“But people just blindly defending him makes me think ‘Wait, would you defend Lamar if you didn’t feel there was some noble purpose behind it? Would you defend Lamar if you were just looking at the results and the lack of playoff wins?’ I don’t think you would.”
