New York Rangers defenseman and team captain Jacob Trouba and the Garden of Dreams Foundation made a Sandy Hook survivor’s dream of attending law school a reality last week.
Trouba met with Isaiah Márquez-Greene last week and informed him that his law school tuition will be fully covered thanks to the foundation. Additionally, Trouba exchanged phone numbers with Márquez-Greene and told him when he obtains his juris doctor, the Rangers’ captain will be at his graduation.
On Friday’s edition of Carton & Roberts, while talking about the exchange co-host Evan Roberts mentioned that his former WFAN co-host Joe Benigno has New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh’s number.
“(Benigno)’s decided to text him his thoughts when things are happening,” Roberts said. It made him wonder if Márquez-Greene would take the same approach. “So I’m curious when this kid is a Rangers fan say, ‘Hey Trouba! I love you pal, but your Game 3 performance ehh! Ehh!”
Co-host Craig Carton said Márquez-Greene likely would not take it upon himself to be so critical.
“When you get the autographed jersey and law school paid for, you console Trouba when he has a bad game. You don’t rip him,” Carton said. “Your former partner might be a little bit different.”
“I think Robert Saleh probably regrets that decision,” Craig added. “I think he probably loved meeting him, respects The Fan and went on the podcast JoJo does. My gut tells me either he’s got a burner phone he doesn’t look at a lot, or he totally regrets giving Joe his number.”
Roberts responded thinking about the potential of the incoming texts from Benigno when the 2023 season starts. Heck, he’s probably texting Saleh about the ongoing trade talks to acquire quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
“Those Monday morning/Sunday night texts are gonna be classic!” Roberts said.
