One of the newest editions at WABC Radio is a host named Laura Curran, who served as Nassau County Executive from 2018-2021. The former Democratic lawmaker has joined WABC to host a weekend show called “Cut to The Chase.”
Last week, Curran joined “Sid and Friends in the Morning” to discuss partnership in mainstream media and what challenges arise from Democrats appearing on a network like Fox News.
“I get a lot of flak from Democrats for going on Fox News,” she said. “If MSNBC or CNN were calling me, of course, I would go.”
According to WABC, Curran is a former New York City reporter who blends her journalism expertise with politics, media, current events, and culture in her work on “Cut to the Chase.” The radio station said she fearlessly engages in thought-provoking conversations that delve into significant issues that impact our lives, regardless of our political leanings, and gets straight to the point.
“I’m having a ton of fun at WABC,” she said. “I also wanted to congratulate Sid because he’s doing so well at all of this, and if people think doing radio is easy, it is not; you (Sid) make it look easy.”
Anyone who has studied communications and toiled away at a radio station or tv statin for years, should be angry that Laura Curran has gone from nervous Nellie commenter on WABC AM radio to having a weekend show of her own.
Curran has the complete support of the station’s owner, who is trying to bring commonsense Dems aboard his station. but instead of getting some coaching from experts, she has just let the station’s more experienced pros interview her on their successful programs and has not learned a damn thing from any of them. TO her Sid Rosenberg makes it look easy> Ever stop to consider how hard he works every morning of the week? He never stops!
Her first show was a disgrace. At one point, when it was time to answer the calls from the listeners, she fumbled and said, “How do I answer the phones?” Um, shouldn’t she have figured that out before? Call screener must have nearly choked. Being paid far less than Laura, I am sure!
On another recent program, when she gave out the toll free number for WABC for listeners to call in to talk, she gave out a totally different station’s number. I guess she listens to that woke station when she is in her own home, or driving her own car! JUst an oversight? A pretty clueless one, if you ask me.
When one of her guests is talking and talking and talking, she doesn’t jump in with aplomb and move the interview along. All you hear is her saying “Ah.” as if admiring their words, or wondering what she can do to get things on track again.
Her claim to fame is that she was a one term Nassau County Executive and during many of her interviews with guests, or when speaking to callers, she mentions that ad nauseum. How great was she, if she didn’t win her next election? One term as a political honcho, does not do it for me.
Still, there she is with her own show!
I find it offensive that a woman given a chance that others would kill for just coasts along and has other hosts at the stations singing her praises. OF course, what else are they going to do?
Until Mr. “Cats” gets sick of her, I think she is In Like Flint.
Too bad, because she is dragging the station down. At least their weekend programming. How many times are people like Sid Rosenberg, Frank Morano and Curtis Sliwa going to hold her hand on air and help her get through another boradcast?
