Last week, YouTube TV announced pricing details as it debuts the NFL Sunday Ticket package later this year. Some marveled at the price being more costly than it was with DirecTV. Meanwhile, one of the NFL’s most prominent reporters, Peter King, berated the league and its new partner for the lack of available options.
In his Football Morning in America column, King roundly criticized the league and YouTube TV for not being more inventive in the new partnership.
“I call BS on YouTube not making available a team-only package for the new iteration of NFL Sunday Ticket,” King argued. “YouTube could have introduced a single-team option—charging, say, $150 for a big Browns fan, born and raised in northeast Ohio and now living in Santa Fe, to see all 17 Browns games in the regular season.
“With technology so advanced in this space, there’s no reason YouTube couldn’t have introduced a single-team option. Well, no reason other than squeezing more money out of people.”
King then chastised the NFL and YouTube TV for saying by they’re “doing research” on the possibility of adding a one-team-only feature.
“Just say what you really mean: We’re testing the market to see how many people we can get an additional $200 a year from even though they’re probably only going to watch their favorite team from far away,” concluded King.
