1190 WOWO has added a stronger FM simulcast to its already robust AM signal.
In a move announced Monday morning, the venerable Fort Wayne news radio station claimed the move was in response to demand from listeners.
“In our most recent WOWO survey to our listeners, the desire for a stronger signal was the most mentioned adjustment suggested,” Federated Media Vice President and General Manager Ben Saurer said. “We believe the addition of 92.3FM will meet our listeners’ request while complimenting the legendary 1190AM signal.”
WOWO had previously aired on 92.3 FM from March 2012 to January 2016, before Federated Media launched Big 92.3, a classic hits station. At the time, WOWO then moved to 107.5 FM, while continuing to air on 97.3 HD-2.
WOWO-AM features 50,000 watts of daytime power, before dropping to 9,800 watts with its nighttime directional signal. The 92.3 FM signal (WFWI-FM) features 2,200 watts, compared to the previous 107.5 FM translator that gave the station an FM-simulcast on a station with 75 watts.
After the addition of the 92.3 FM simulcast, the station will remain on the 97.3 HD-2 signal, as well as 107.5 FM.
