If Charles Barkley can’t watch a game on TV or be there in person, he’ll probably either miss the game or check the score on his phone. He’s not going to bother listening to radio play-by-play.
Talking with Ernie Johnson on their podcast The Steam Room, Barkley couldn’t wrap his head around the concept of having to rely on someone to paint a picture of what’s happening with their words.
“I would never turn on the radio and listen to the game,” Barkley said. “I think that’s the stupidest thing in the world.”
The NBA on TNT analyst just felt like audio alone doesn’t do a game justice.
“I’m a visual person when it comes to sports,” he said. “I just wouldn’t want to listen to it on the radio.”
Now to clarify, Barkley didn’t diss sports talk radio as a whole like CBS’ Greg Gumbel did last year. But there’s probably a good chance if Charles isn’t going to listen to a game on the radio, he’s not going to tune in to hear lively sports discussions either.
