Michael Smerconish: Lack of News Cameras in Trump Courtroom ‘So Ridiculous’

A federal judge has ruled that no electronic devices, including video cameras from news organizations, are allowed in the Miami courthouse as former President Donald Trump is arraigned. It appears Michael Smerconish strongly disagrees with that decision.

In a Tuesday afternoon tweet, the longtime radio host aired his grievances with the order.

“So ridiculous that the public is not being permitted to watch this legal proceeding – and all legal proceedings we have a right to attend…including (the Supreme Court),” Smerconish wrote.

Federal Judge Jonathan Goodman denied a request from a coalition of media outlets, including CNN and NPR, to allow recording devices in the courtroom. Goodman claimed that “allowing photographs would undermine the massive security arrangements put in place.”

There was an expectation from media organizations that they would be allowed to film the proceedings, similar to Trump’s first indictment earlier this year in a Manhattan courtroom.

Media reporters are forced to leave the Miami courthouse to broadcast updates on the legal proceedings after Goodman denied all electronic devices in the actual courthouse.
