Jorge Sedano would love to be the next host of Wheel of Fortune, but the 710 ESPN Los Angeles host understands that he’s got no real chance of being Pat Sajak’s replacement.
His ESPN LA colleagues Travis Rodgers and Emily Hybl on Tuesday backed Sedano as a serious contender for the gig on the air, saying he has the perfect personality to host. Scott Kaplan, his partner in afternoon drive, expressed similar sentiments on Twitter.
But Sedano told BSM his comments about wanting to be the next host of the shoe were mostly made in jest. He did say what is true is that he’s a huge fan of the iconic game show.
“My parents and I loved Pat and Vanna,” Sedano said. “It was on every evening in my house. Hell, even my grandmother learned a ton of English from watching it.”
Jorge added that he was entertaining the silliness of it all and was flattered the folks on Travis and Sliwa believed he could be successful as the host of Wheel of Fortune.
“I appreciate that my colleagues at ESPN 710 in LA having faith that I could pull it off,” he said. “Look, I’ve been doing live radio for over 20 years and TV for a little over a decade. A lot of stuff gets thrown at you over that amount of time. I’m also pretty solid at being snarky with a smile.”
Sedano also spoke about having those TV opportunities – hosting shows, sideline reporting and play-by-play for ESPN over the last 10 years. Those are things he said he never could have imagined venturing into, so while his chances are slim, he’s not going to completely rid his mind of the idea replacing Sajak.
“Could I pull off being the next host of Wheel of Fortune? Probably not, but I’d love to imagine it,” he said.
