A recent story in The Washington Post touched on the current beer market in the United States after Bud Light received strong pushback for an advertising campaign with transgender influence Dylan Mulvaney. 770 KTTH host Jason Rantz argued the story was a gaslighting attempt by the publication.
In the story from The Washington Post, an argument is made that Bud Light’s demotion from America’s top-selling beer has as much to do with declining interest in domestic beer as it does with the controversy surrounding the brand’s activation with Mulvaney. Rantz took issue with that insinuation.
“It’s such nonsense and everyone knows it’s nonsense. What does The Washington Post get out of a story like this? They get to brag. Julian Mark is the reporter on this. They all get to say that they’re part of the club on the right side of history, which is what they tell you. To get you to think that you’re on the wrong side of history,” said The Jason Rantz Show host.
“They do that because they want to get you to stop thinking about yourself being on the right side of history because we’re not really thinking about being on the right side of history when we talk about any of these issues. We just want to be on the right side of an issue. We want to do what’s right what’s right for ourselves, our family, our friends, our community, and our country. We just want to do what’s right.”
Rantz continued by saying there’s a perceived moral superiority by taking a stance about the ultimate way a conflict is remembered.
“When the people who are so proud to proclaim that they’re on the right side, it’s insufferable. It’s grandstanding. It’s playing hero and they want to be seen as part of the club, the progressive club, and so they’re willing to defend Bud Light and do whatever it can to save Bud Light because ultimately what Julian Mark and others at The Washington Post and The New York Times and on CNN and MSNBC, what they ultimately want to do is tell you that Bud Light has recovered, their sales are better than ever, and they’re going to frame it around a total rejection of the right-wing attack on transgender people.
“That’s how they want to frame the story so badly. And so they’re doing what they can to defend and help including just by flat-out gaslighting you and that’s the best way to talk about this. They are gaslighting you.”
