CBS News Reporter Details Experience on Now Missing Titanic Submarine

The news that a company providing submarine missions to the wreck of the Titanic has lost contact with their submersible has dominated the news cycle. CBS News reporter David Pogue went on a mission with the group last summer and detailed his experience on social media.

Pogue shared that during his report on the trek, concerns were broached about the construction of the vessel created by company OceanGate.

While signing the waiver for his trip, Pogue noted that the contract called the submarine “an experimental explorable submersible that has not been approved by any regulatory body”. He later aired comments from the group’s leader admitting that some of the parts for the vessel were purchased at Camping World, and is controlled by a video game controller.

Pogue noted that during his expedition last year, a vessel was lost for nearly two and a half hours on the ocean floor before finally surfacing.

However, Pogue shared that there is hope for the five people inside the vessel. Those inside the submarine are provided with 96 hours of oxygen, and even if the electronics fail, there are still ways for the submarine to surface.
