Candace Owens Responds to Criticism Over Juneteenth Opinion

Conservative commentator Candace Owens reaffirmed her stance against Juneteenth while accusing Black individuals who voiced their disagreement with her previous post that mocked the holiday of “playing the race card.”

The chain of events began when Owens expressed her disapproval of Juneteenth, labeling it as “a pander of a holiday” in one of her critical tweets. She further described the holiday as “ghetto and made up,” provoking a response from another Twitter user who accused Owens of despising her own Black identity.

In response, Owens directed her criticism towards the Black Lives Matter movement, characterizing it as the cause behind what she perceived as Black individuals becoming “fragile, emotionally sensitive”.

As an outspoken conservative political pundit and a Black woman herself, Owens sparked a contentious debate on Juneteenth when she posted a tweet belittling the recently established federal holiday as “inferior” and “fabricated.”

“Juneteenth remains inferior and contrived. Wishing everyone a pleasant experience!” Owens tweeted, generating significant controversy.

Each year on June 19th, Juneteenth is observed to commemorate the complete abolition of slavery in the United States. This significant date marks the anniversary of Union General Gordon Granger’s declaration of the end of slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865.

“Juneteenth is soooo lame,” she wrote. “Democrats really need to stop trying to repackage segregation. I’ll be celebrating July 4th and July 4th only. I’m American.”
