77 WABC is celebrating Pride Day on Thursday, and owner John Catsimatidis claims the efforts by the station are the latest in a long life of attempts to unite communities.
During an interview with Sid Rosenberg on Sid and Friends in the Morning, the billionaire owner shared his belief in what the radio station is all about.
“It’s the land of opportunity and the land of the free to do whatever they want,” Catsimatidis said. “WABC specializes in bringing people together, not diving them. That’s the key.”
The Red Apple Media owner’s comments came after he discussed the importance of freedom for Americans and his belief that people should be left alone and free to make whatever decisions they’d like.
Rosenberg added that the attitude presented by Catsimatidis is part of the reason for the recent success of the station.
“We have all these days. I’m being very sincere and genuine — whether we’re talking about St. Patrick Day, Israeli Day here, Greek Day, we have Pride Day today — I think New Yorkers really get a sense of togetherness and that Kum-By-Yah spirit that you and Margo so brilliant have done here,” Rosenberg said of the 77 WABC owner and his wife.
“That’s one of the reasons why the station is doing so well. You’ve got a big heart, John. A big heart.”
