There were many reactions to the announcement from Fox News that Jesse Watters would move into the timeslot previously occupied by Tucker Carlson. 1210 WPHT host Dom Giordano thought the move was a smart one.
During a discussion with Carlson’s biographer — Chadwick Moore — on The Dom Giordano Program Monday, the longtime Philadelphia host argued that Watters was the natural choice to succeed Carlson.
“I thought it was a pretty smart move for Fox,” Giordano said. “Jesse Watters is not Tucker Carlson. You gotta move away from that because there’s only one Tucker Carlson.”
Moore argued that Watters was a safe choice for the network, but said he didn’t view the selection as one that would restore the ratings losses Fox News has suffered since Carlson was unceremoniously fired in late April.
Giordano, however, disagreed.
“I differ a little bit there. I think he’s got his own — given how bad this vacuum is now without Tucker.”
Fox News Tonight featured an average audience around 1.5 million viewers in the weeks after Carlson’s departure. Tucker Carlson Tonight averaged more than double that figure, with an average audience of 3.2 million.
