Two Midwest Communications Stations Drop Dan Bongino Citing Contract Concerns

After reaching the 500 affiliate mark earlier this month, The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show has expanded to a pair of Midwest Communications stations. WTAQ in Green Bay and KELO in Sioux Falls will add the program in its current live timeslot. The show will replace The Dan Bongino Show in both stations’ lineups.

In a Facebook post, WTAQ alleged that the decision was made due to Bongino’s claim that he will exit his radio show at the conclusion of his contract next year.

“We waited six weeks before signing another show,” the post read. “When we signed the contract with our new program, the syndicator still did not have a contract signed with Dan Bongino. We have still not been informed that any new contract has been signed.”

The station claimed that it took Bongino’s December remarks that he wouldn’t renew his contract “at face value”. Bongino has subsequently walked back those comments after Cumulus Media ended its COVID-19 vaccine mandate. He has shared that he is reconsidering his radio future.

On Twitter, Bongino said “I’d appreciate you just being honest with your audience,” after the station said his removal from the lineup was due to him not renewing his contract.

Nonetheless, each station shared its excitement for the addition of Clay Travis and Buck Sexton.

“We’re excited about the addition of Clay and Buck to our lineup,” said WTAQ Operations Manager Jason Hillery. “Their backgrounds and points of view on conservative topics are consistent with the values and direction of our brand. We look forward to many years of success with this program!”

“We believe KELO’s listeners will really enjoy engaging with Clay and Buck. Their values represent the common sense, principled values found here on the Great Plains,” added KELO Brand Manager Greg Belfrage. “Clay and Buck will allow people throughout the Sioux Empire to hear the news and talk about it as it happens.”
