During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Beat, Democratic strategist James Carville commented on the recent lawsuit against Fox News by Ray Epps, a man from Arizona accused by Tucker Carlson of being a federal agent who helped plan and execute the January 6th Insurrection.
Carville described the Fox News audience as a “giant monster that you have to feed every night.”
He also discussed the network’s attempts to blame the events of January 6th on Antifa, an organization that does not exist. Carville stated that if Fox News had stuck to condemning Antifa, they might have been able to avoid legal trouble, but instead, they singled out Epps.
“They were desperate to have an answer. It was bad optics of people beating up policemen and breaking into windows, all right? And their audience desperately needed another explanation,” Carville said about FNC.
During the discussion, Ari Melber pointed out that Fox News blamed others for the events that transpired instead of admitting the truth. It was clear that what began as a Trump rally ultimately escalated into a Trump insurrection.
“If they were going to keep their audience, they had to supply it. The Antifa thing fell apart, so Mr. Epps was the remainder man. And that audience, they just can’t let it go. They have to—it’s a giant monster that you have to feed every night,” added Carville.
