Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has accepted a longstanding offer to debate Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-FL) on Fox News with Sean Hannity serving as moderator.
Newsom originally told Hannity that he would be willing to debate DeSantis, which resulted in the two governors sparring sporadically on social media. During a Wednesday appearance with Hannity, DeSantis said “Absolutely, I’m game. Just tell me when and where,” when the topic of a debate with Newsom was broached.
The California governor’s team has reportedly told the cable outlet that a November timeframe works best for them. Newsom’s camp also proposed several conditions for the debate, including a 90-minute time length, that the debate would air live on Fox News, neither governor would use notes, and Hannity would ensure equal time was offered to both politicians to answer questions.
DeSantis is already a candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Newsom, however, has not entered the race for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, refusing to challenge President Joe Biden.
During a June sit down interview with Sean Hannity, Newsom told the Fox News host that he watches the channel every night to see what the other side of the political aisle viewed as the largest stories of the day.
