After 28 years, KMOX news reporter Kevin Killeen is departing the St. Louis news/talk station.
He is leaving the Audacy-owned station to join the St. Charles (MO) County Office of Communications as its Managing Director.
“Here at KMOX for 28 years, I’ve been rotating the same three neckties,” Killeen, widely known for his humor, joked during an appearance on Total Information AM. “I’m gonna have to really step up my game.”
Kevin Killeen continued by noting that he first fell in love with KMOX as youngster, and it became his dream to work at the venerable St. Louis station.
“I was really attracted to the wordplay,” he said. “What do you think makes good radio? The people who are on it, if they are the kind of people you would want to ride in your car with across Kansas, and just hear their voice. Like (Total Information AM co-host) Debbie Monterrey. Her voice in the morning, it’s so calm, you get up you think ‘I don’t want to get up’, but you hear a calm voice in the morning and you think ‘Alright, she got up. I can get up’.
“Good radio is also not just the personalities and the voices but they take you someplace that you wouldn’t get to yourself and it kind of takes you out of your world. And it broadens you. Then you have some knowledge of things through KMOX and radio that you wouldn’t have if you just listened to music all the time.”
The news of Killeen’s departure comes after the announcement that former KFMO Program Director and host Sean Malone was joining KMOX as a news reporter.
